Buck Keenan represents businesses and individuals in insurance-related matters, including litigating against insurance carriers and providing opinions regarding coverage and insurance carriers’ duty to defend the insured.
Insurance Law
State insurance codes and consumer protection statutes provide strong protections for policyholders, including penalty interest on insurance benefits that are withheld or delayed and the recovery of attorneys’ fees by successful claimants. Insurance policies are notoriously difficult to understand. When representing policyholders, we take care to understand the coverage available and the coverage exclusions that insurers typically rely on. Just because an insurance company or its lawyers say there is no coverage or that exclusions apply does not make it so.
Bad Faith Claims
The law recognizes that insurance companies will sometimes try to take advantage of their policyholders’ misfortune and weakened financial condition following a loss. This is commonly known as insurance “bad faith.” Buck Keenan has represented hundreds of policyholders on claims involving millions of dollars in property damage following large scale disasters, as well as individual homeowners seeking payment for smaller losses.
